Q: What is endosymbiosis?

A: Endo meaning within and symbiotic meaning the relationship between two species; positive, negative or neutral, with a good mix for homeostasis. The Endosymbiotic love calendar project looks at 12 different microorganism’s relationship with humans; exploring them, seeing how they match and their relationship whether positive or negative.

Q: Why are some organisms italicised and others not?

A: Scientific convention. Italics are used for bacterial and viral taxa at the level of family and below (genus, species, and variety or subspecies). For organisms other than bacteria, fungi, and viruses, scientific names of taxa above the genus level (families, orders, etc.) are in roman type.
